about

David Shongo is a Congolese pianist, songwriter and visual artist who graduated in networks and telecommunications from the Protestant University of Lubumbashi. He is the founder and artistic director of the Kinshasa Piano Festival.

David Shongo's work revolves around memory in postcolony and the issue of Congolese musical heritage. He is interested in the linguistic pulsations of the languages of the Congo space as rhythms and tones. Since 2019, he has been researching the archives of the German ethnographer, collector and scientist Hans Himmelheber, funded by the Swiss National Fund, in collaboration with the Rietberg Museum and the University of Zurich. He has also been conducting research since 2018 on the harmonic and melodic connection between different languages in Congo. David is currently selected for a research residency at HISK in Ghent.

His work has been presented at the Rietberg Museum in Zurich in the Fiktion Kongo exhibition, at the Locarno film festival, at the Lubumbashi Biennale 2019, at the Congo International Film Festival, at the Congo in Harlem in New York, in Pennsylvania, and several other places of art.
