John Erik Kaada (or “KAADA” as he’s often called) is a recording artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Norway. KAADA has also enjoyed a string of critically acclaimed solo albums, collaborations, and many records and world tours as a member of the alternative power-trio, Cloroform. KAADA’s style is perhaps most easily defined by his unique sounds and penchant for eclectic instrumentation. The last few years he has been focusing on piano compositions.

The song is a new composition by Kaada performed on a Piano where the strings has been prepared with dashes of ‘Heftemasse’. Which leads to a different, less sustained, but a quirkier and more refined sound with a distinct character.

"Our Hopes We Place’ is, at its heart, about small rhythmic cells slowly transforming into a wider and open chord structure. The repetitive figure leads into a downwards melodic movement at the very end, before returning to its initial arpeggiated figure at the very last bar. As the title indicates, it is a piece about hoping that things will turn out well in the end. The piano sound is achieved by placing a tiny bit of ‘heftemasse’ or Putty Kit at the end of the strings. Which leads to a different, less sustained, but a quirkier and more refined sound with a distinct character“
